Project Details
The main goal of the project was to upgrade the existing main lift station and forcemain with new, larger infrastructure to provide sufficient hydraulic capacity for both current and future flows. Additionally, the project sought to provide improved functionality for the City including on site back-up power generation and reliable flow monitoring and recording. Existing infrastructure was maintained and modified to provide operational flexibility for operators to avoid backups under extreme wastewater flow conditions.
This project was primarily a lift station and forcemain replacement project. A 10' x 10' concrete submersible style lift station structure was installed approximately 25' deep next to the existing lift station. The existing lift station was retrofitted to provide additional hydraulic capacity ahead of the new lift station. Following the new lift station, a new 10' x 12' concrete vault was installed to house the effluent lift station valves, fittings and a flow measurement meter. The addition of accurate, reliable flow measurement to the lift station will allow the City to quantify their wastewater flows in order to better operate their wastewater system as well as to plan for future infrastructure improvements. Following the vault, 2,100-ft of 10-inch forcemain was installed to convey the wastewater from the new lift station to the existing treatment ponds. Modifications to the existing valve vault provide the ability to hook up an additional pump and utilize the existing 6-inch forcemain as emergency back-up piping when needed.
An 80-kW natural-gas backup generator, lift station control panels, and support equipment were installed in a new 16' x 20' generator building to the west of the new lift station. The addition of backup power increases lift station reliability and prevents sewer backups in the case of a power outage. The building protects this valuable equipment and provides a protected climate-controlled space for operating the lift station. Finally, lighting, concrete surfacing, and fencing were installed to complete the new and improved Aurora main lift station.
